Most of the readers here must have read by now that Mark Zuckerberg, 26 years old CEO of Facebook has recently announced donation of $100million to Newark Schools in a bold bid. The purpose of this donation quoted at various sources was to improve the worst performance of public school systems in US.
Now explaining worst performance, Newark spends about $22,000 a year on each of its 40,000 pupils but only about half of its students graduate. Of those who do, only one-fifth go on to four-year colleges. More than 85% of the Newark students at community colleges need remedial help in Maths and English subject as WSJ explains.
Now the point is, Zuckerberg spent his early childhood in Wenchester, studied from Harvard, and spending time in California these day. Why would he pay for Newark Schools? Many people stated the reason that Mr. Booker the mayor of city had few conversation with him and he decided to help the worst performing schools using Facebook’s money.
“First, the Supreme Court makes it wholly possible for corporations to buy politicians and, now, corporations are buying public schools.”
Ideally people of US should be happy from this investment on education system and since he is going to be one of the richest billionaires in the world soon, its kind of setting an example for people in future to follow. But many people raised their concerns on it. The most critical includes, “First, the Supreme Court makes it wholly possible for corporations to buy politicians and, now, corporations are buying public schools.” Kind of true actually, we have seen many examples like this in past and what an oil company did in recent past which I actually do not want to quote here. Someone somewhere commented on this issue which I really admired and like to quote here that all schools should be de-funded and keeping the students ignorant so that they vote Republicans. This act of “charity” is actually an endorsement of public malfeasance that borders on criminal.
Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest millionaire on earth and created something that has already had a impact on the world. Yet hardly anybody knows a lot about facebook. It’s amazing.
